Miguel Cabrera attempts to force feed Fig Newton to Brayan Pena (video)
Traditionally, sunflower seeds and bubble gum are the foodstuffs of choice in major league dugouts. But sometimes, other munchies will be made available. Apparently, a mom of one of the players on the Detroit Tigers roster packed a special snack and sent it along with their special little baseball-playing boy before he headed to the ballpark, because Fig Newtons, a childhood favorite, made a surprising appearance in the dugout during Detroit’s game against the Chicago White Sox.
What, no orange wedges? What the fungus?
Anyhoo, Tigers slugging third baseman Miguel Cabrera sat out of Tuesday’s game to nurse a hip injury he suffered during Monday’s game against the ChiSox, leaving him an abundant amount of time to engage in some tomfoolery with his teammates. And of course, this involved the aforementioned Fig Newtons.
Try as he might, Cabrera could not convince catcher Brayan Pena to eat a Fig Newton, even trying to force feed him a morsel of figgy, soft cookie goodness. Can’t say I blame Pena, in all honesty. Fig Newtons are kinda nasty. Now, if some Keebler Pecan Sandies were making the rounds, that’s another story altogether. Or some Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies? Now we’re talking.
