Ian Poulter slams Muirfield setup, mentions windmill and clown face

Ian Poulter was fit to be tied after the conclusion of his day withstanding the tough conditions during his first round at Muirfield in the British Open.

So much so, in fact, that despite carding a respectable 72 (+1), Poulter quickly took to Twitter to slam how the course was set up, evoking comparisons to how Muirfield resembled a miniature golf course with his colorful observations.

Poulter’s first tweet following his round adequately illustrated his unhappiness (via @IanJamesPoulter):

And the money tweet, showcasing Poulter’s renowned wit:

Poulter is something of a cad, so perhaps his comments were intended to be at least somewhat whimsical and should be taken with a grain of salt. Still, there definitely is some frustration behind the tweets.

Poulter certainly won’t be the last to slam the treacherous setup — Phil Mickelson really laid into Muirfield’s setup following his round — but at least he had the good sense to inject some humor into his complaints.
