Woman behind home plate jumps, screams after foul ball drills backstop (video)

During Wednesday’s game between the New York Mets and Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, a woman seated behind home plate, who wasn’t paying attention to the action right in front of her as she was jibber-jabbing with the man seated next to her, had the ever-living crap scared out of her when a foul ball off the bat of Mets outfielder Juan Lagares came screaming back in her direction.

The ball drilled the backstop just below the protective netting, causing a loud thud. But said loud thud had nothing in terms of volume relative to the scream of surprise out of the mouth of the obviously shocked young woman, which can be readily heard in the video.

Nice scream. Sure, it didn’t reach Maria Sharapova-level decibels, but still a nice scream. My guess is Chi Sox announcer Hawk Harrelson’s photo from 1970 probably would have elicited the same reaction out of her. Just a hunch.

And some GIFs that highlight the look of abject terror on the young lady’s face:

That’ll learn her to pay better attention to the ballgame. Or it won’t.
