Matt Kemp returns to Dodgers lineup, makes great play in field to seal win (video)
One of the last times we saw Matt Kemp on the field, he was brightening the day of a terminally ill fan. Since then, he has been out of the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup after suffering a hamstring injury in a game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on May 29. But the Dodgers slugger made his triumphant return to the lineup after being activated off the disabled list before the team took the field on Tuesday for a game against the San Francisco Giants.
While Kemp only went 1-4 from the plate, scoring a run, he made a great play in center field to close out the game and preserve a 6-5 victory.
With the Giants scoring two runs in the ninth and having two men on and two out, Kemp, playing a very shallow center, showed no ill-effects from his hamstring injury as he raced down a shot off the bat of Marco Scutaro, tracking it to the warning track before snatching it his glove. Ballgame. Dodgers win.
And to add an exclamation point on the play, Kemp emphatically slapped the wall in center field in a celebratory outburst (via MLB.com):
The impressive catch preserved the fourth consecutive win for the Dodgers. And with Kemp back in the lineup, although he has struggled thus far this season at the plate, the Dodgers could be in prime position to go on a run.
