Giant toboggan ride highlights New York’s ‘Super Bowl Boulevard’ (video)
The New York Daily News exclusively has obtained details and renderings of what is being called “Super Bowl Boulevard,” a football-themed street festival that reportedly will be housed between 34th and 44th Streets in New York City when the NFL invades The Big Apple for Super Bowl XLVIII
The big game, to be played at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 2, 2014, will involve a cavalcade of over-the-top events and sideshow attractions under the big top heading of “Super Bowl Boulevard.” Set to be held between Jan. 29 and Feb. 1, the spectacle will be highlighted by planned eight-lane, 180-foot long, 58-foot-high toboggan run right down Broadway.
The preliminary plans will be officially unveiled on Tuesday, but a video provides a glimpse at what is to be expected:
Looks pretty neat. Sure, when one’s thoughts turn to Super Bowl Week events, festivities such as beach parties and other assorted warm weather activities typically come to mind. But when the NFL makes the out-of-the-box decision to hold a Super Bowl in a locale such as New York where a wintry climate is to be expected, why wouldn’t toboggan rides be part of the scene? Seems like a no-brainer to me.
