Little known fact: Nick Saban passed on role in ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ (pic)

Okay, I know, students of cinema will argue that the original “Revenge of the Nerds” was released in 1984 and this photo of Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban is circa 1988, four years after the titular film dazzled the dirty little minds adolescent boys who watched the film on Showtime after their parents went to bed. But it’s reasonable to assume that Saban looked essentially the same in 1984 and had he ventured out to Hollywood instead of pursuing a career in football, all that stood between him and the role of Lewis Skolnick — okay, maybe Mr. Skolnick, Lewis’ cruise-control-set-at-35 dad (work with me here) — was a killer audition or screen test.

Be that as it may — as I attempt to stop thinking about Betty Childs (maybe some math would help: There are 6,127 students at Adams, 58% of which are girls … )

What? Oh, never mind. Be that as it may, in 1988, Nick Saban was a defensive assistant for the Michigan State Spartans team that beat USC Trojans in the Rose Bowl. It was after that game was when this photo was snapped. And between  the goofy glasses and nebbish  grin, it is pure, unadulterated and nerdy comedic gold. Much like “Revenge of the Nerds,” actually. But if you’re anything like me, you knew that already.
