Tony Allen’s thespian-worthy flop admired by Steven Speilberg in brilliant GIF

In case you missed it, Memphis Grizzlies swingman Tony Allen executed a flop for the ages late in the 4th quarter during his team’s Tuesday night tilt against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of the teams’ semifinal series. Allen’s brilliant acting job elicited a flagrant foul call on Manu Ginobili, a key play that had a huge impact on the game and effectively helped the Grizz take the Spurs to overtime before ultimately losing.

Allen has been criticized for his acting display on the play, primarily for how he rolled about on the ground grabbing his head as if it had struck the hardwood when in fact it did not.

And now, thanks to the video wizardry of a Scott Johnson, Allen’s thespian tendencies have received their due lampoonery courtesy of a brilliant GIF.

But first, video of the play in question:

And Scott Johnson’s wonderful animated GIF in which Allen receives applause and adulation from an adoring crowd of Hollywood luminaries, including Steven Speilberg and more importantly, a spastic Brendan Fraser:

Brilliantly done. Flopping has been the source of much scrutiny by the NBA this season, but the fines, warnings and whatnot appear to have had no effect. Maybe Speilberg can help out. I don’t know how, but the guy does amazing things.
