Moonwalker: Manny Ramirez continues to be Manny Ramirez in Taiwan (video)

Not that it should come as a surprise to anyone, Manny Ramirez’s many peculiarities have not disappeared simply by him making the long trek to play professional baseball in Taiwan.

In fact, Manny’s change of location has made his eccentricities that much more compelling, especially to his new fans in Asia, as evidenced by this news report documenting, for lack of a better way of putting it, another demonstration of Manny being Manny.

The report comes from Taiwan’s ETTV and it addresses how Ramirez did his best Michael Jackson “Moonwalk” demonstration after taking a mighty swing at a pitch. After dropping to his knee, Manny’s momentum causes him to tumble out of the batter’s box down the first base line.

It’s certainly helpful to have Manny’s “moonwalk” juxtaposed with footage of Michael Jackson’s memorable moonwalk during his 1983 performance of “Billy Jean” at the Motown 25th Anniversary celebration. Without it, I never would have made the connection. Which isn’t surprising since there really isn’t much of a similarity between Manny’s stumbling and Michael’s moonwalk to begin with in the first place.

Still, it’s an amusing sight. If only Manny had been dressed up as The Incredible Hulk during it. Now that would have been something.
