Reporter who said Blackhawks ‘had a tremendous amount of sex’ fired (video)

Susannah Collins, the sideline reporter who attained viral infamy due to her on-air slip-up on Tuesday when she uttered the now-famous Freudian slip about the Chicago Blackhawks having a “tremendous amount of sex” during the regular season instead of “tremendous amount of success,” has been fired by Comcast SportsNet Chicago, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times.

A statement released by Comcast SportsNet Chicago claims that her on-air gaffe had nothing to do with Collins, who has been with Comcast SportsNet Chicago since 2012, suddenly being out of a job:

“Due to circumstances unrelated to her on-air remarks Tuesday night, Susannah Collins and Comcast SportsNet Chicago have parted ways. We appreciate everything Susannah has contributed to our network over the past year and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Collins attempted to take the whirlwind created by her mistake during pregame coverage of Game 1 of the playoff series between the Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild, tweeting out jokes about the hilarious mistake.

Video of the Freudian slip that set things in motion:

Collins handled the epic mistake with dignity, aplomb and self-deprecating humor:

Obviously, her sense of humor about the whole thing did not save the job that she loved. No one will ever know for certain how much of a role Collins’ on-air miscue had in her dismissal, but as is often said: There is no such thing as bad publicity so no one should expect the lovely and talented young woman to be out of a job for too long.

She should get a raise. Most men are going to want to watch her now just because of this. Ratings would soar.

And who cares if she said sex. Its not that big of a deal. Everyone knows what it is and how it works. It is on all TV shows and movies. Get over it.

Oh my, clearly this is a case of stumbling over words and i’m pretty sure everyone knew what Collins meant. Who hasn’t mispronounced a word on/off air in their lives? At least it wasn’t an F-bomb or worse. Numerous people got a good laugh (lighten up execs) and clearly didn’t see any harm in it I believe due to following banter caused the firing, Roker wasn’t saying a WORD which Lauer pointed out, “You’re extremely quiet?” which Roker replied ‘I need this job.” lol!

Ah well, what’s done is done but overdone!

If everyone spent a little more time trying to improve their own life and morals and a little less time being offended every time the wind blows, the world would be a better and less angry place. I dare any one of those “perfect” people who were responsible for her being fired to honestly lay claim to the fact that they have not ever misspoke themselves in such a manner. I personally got a good chuckle out of it and in today’s world, if something can make you forget problems even for a few seconds and make you laugh, I don’t think it should be punished. Give her her job back, enjoy a few chuckles over it and move on!

Bad form Comcast,.. Bad form. Not a subscriber to your service but this will definitely make me steer clear if I had the option. This is a small slip in an otherwise seemingly professional broadcaster. It was free PR for your company that you just chose to create more negative out of the positive.

But seriously, losing her job over a simple ‘on air’ mistake that was trivial and inconspicuous? Ridiculous.

I have left comcast as a result of their inappropriate decision making and gone with Verizon. I hope many others do the same.

… and young lady, if – by chance – you happen to read this message, I would relish the opportunity to get to know you better – in a platonic sort of way… who knows, it may lead to something valuable.

To all of the people who are flipping out thinking she got canned because of a slip of the tongue, tt wasn’t this comment that resulted in her getting fired. What it did is once this comment hit the national stage (Leno), the social media trending Susannah Collins resulted in people finding out about a series of lowbrow comedy skits on youtube (link here) and CSN wanted to avoid the embarrassment.

Comcast continues its lying ways. It is the worst company in the world for customer service and now it has notched a place in infamy for lying about why it fired Collins. Too bad companies such as Comcast — and there are many of them — can’t be fired for lack of honesty in all their business dealings, which is far worse than anything Collins did.

Comcast should hang their heads in shame for being so ignorant. They got tons of free publicity from all of this and with their declining memberships they need all the help that they can get. It was not even the F— or the infamous Ni–er, I say three cheers for Direct T.V. I switched from comcast to Direct T.V. and never looked back.
