The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the visiting San Francisco Giants by a score of 4-3 at Miller Park on Wednesday night in dramatic walk-off fashion courtesy of a ninth inning, pinch-hit single by Blake Lalli.

During the ensuing celebration, Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun attempted to douse center fielder Carlos Gomez with a full Gatorade jug in the dugout. Gomez managed to evade the soaking.

Hilarity obviously occurred and ensued, but even better, a fantastic photo documenting the exact moment when Gomez ducks out of the way of barrage of icy liquid — presumably water — was snapped.

Amazing work from an AP photographer, who was in the right place at the right time and pressed “click” at the perfect moment:

Fantastic. It generally is believed that the tradition of the Gatorade (or water in a Gatorade jug) shower began during the mid-1980s with the New York Giants when Harry Carson dumped a Gatorade jug on Bill Parcells at the request of teammate Jim Burt after a big win. Burt apparently was angry at Parcells and knew that if he performed the soaking Parcells would be peeved, and Burt knew that Carson was a Parcells favorite and would not draw the intimidating coach’s ire in the same way Burt would.

And there you have it: A tradition was born.

Gomez, unlike Parcells, is a speedy athlete with obvious cat-like reflexes, so while impressive, he does possess the agility to make a slick move to get out of the way of Braun’s attempt. Can’t see Parcells being able to do that.

One thing is for certain: What was going on in the Brewers dugout post-game was a heckuva lot better than the fart-fest that occurred in the Giants bullpen during the game. Gross.
