Overcome with emotion, Bubba Watson cries during Masters presser (video)
Bubba Watson has made a grand return to the site of his biggest professional achievement this week as he finds himself in Augusta preparing to compete in the Masters this week. And during Tuesday morning’s press conference, Bubba was reminded again just how profound the effect of winning a green jacket has had upon him, his life and his career. And it overwhelmed him.
While a notorious jokester who enjoys spending his free time doing everything from uploading irreverent videos to tooling around in a golf cart hovercraft — not to mention a member of the all-golfer boy band, the Golf Boys — Watson is an incredibly emotional person. Who can forget how he broke down upon winning the Masters last year?
All the memories must have come flooding back in an instant, because after he was asked about the most interesting thing he had done involving his green jacket, the waterworks began to flow.
After being asked that question, Bubba said, “I’ll probably cry again,” adding, “Thanks for bringing this up.” Which he promptly did after mentioning his son Caleb, whom he and his wife Angie adopted as a 1-month-old shortly before his magnificent victory at last year’s Masters.
After explaining how he wrapped Caleb up in his green jacket — “That was the only thing I did with it,” he said — Watson fought through tears as he said he treated his green jacket with high regard. “Out of respect and honor for Augusta National, one of the greatest clubs we have, one of the greatest tournaments, I didn’t do any of my funny antics I would normally do.”
This is why Bubba Watson is awesome. He is humble, emotional, hilarious, talented and everything he does — even all the goofy stuff — is done with humility and class.
