Bubba Watson, Oakley release footage of the BW1, a hovercraft golf cart (video)

On Tuesday, PGA Tour star Bubba Watson and Oakley released a video on YouTube where the world’s first hovercraft golf cart is taken for a spin in a mind-blowing demonstration that is equal parts supremely cool and profoundly practical.

Named the BW1 and referred to as “Bubba’s Hover” in the video, the golf cart hovercraft is all kinds of awesome.

From the YouTube description:

Golf carts haven’t changed much over the years. They look and feel the same. What if there was a way to improve the traditional golf cart concept and take away some of the limitations? That is what Bubba Watson and Oakley set out to do. They created the world’s first hovercraft golf cart. Using hovercraft technology, the BW1 is able to glide over any terrain, including grass, sand, and water.

And the video:

Far out. Not since Frank Black’s video for “Los Angeles” have I been so impressed by hovercraft technology. But I’m stuck in the 1990s, so there you go.

Bubba proclaims the genius of the BW1 in the video by saying, “Golf carts have looked the same, they’ve been the same, you’ve got to stay 30 yards from the green, you’ve got to stay on the cart path when it’s raining.

“But let’s have fun. Let’s go through the water hazard, come off the other side right by the green, putt your ball in the hole, and then you can drive back across the water hazard and who doesn’t want to do that?”

Awesome. And who better than Bubba Watson to be the leading force on the PGA Tour behind the BW1 prototype? The guy owns the General Lee, for crying out loud.
