Breaking; Ricky Rubio might turn out to be a pretty decent NBA player (video)
I know, really going out on a limb with that headline, right? Minnesota Timberwolves second-year point guard Ricky Rubio notched his first career triple-double on Tuesday night as the T-Wolves dismantled the Tim Duncan-less San Antonio Spurs by a score of 107-83.
In a phenomenal individual effort over nearly 35 minutes on the court, Rubio finished the game with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists. But perhaps no single play displayed the breathtaking skills and seemingly limitless potential of the young point guard — and the likelihood that Rubio can lead this team out of the abyss next season (so long as the roster isn’t decimated by injuries once again) — than his brilliant back-to-back-behind-the-back dribble-drive-for-easy-layup. Try saying that five times fast. Although that would be far easier than replicating Rubio’s dazzling on-court moves.
Amazing. Keeping in mind that he’s a pretty good passer, too, — not to mention his unyielding positivity as evidenced by his status as the Bobby McFerrin of NBA point guards — watching this incredible play leads me to believe that this Rubio kid could really turn out to be a decent basketball player, don’t you think?
