Rays first baseman Luke Scott arrived at spring training with a boar’s head (photo)
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Luke Scott — a unique, eccentric fellow with interesting theories and thoughts on a variety of topics — arrived at spring training on Sunday afternoon with a curious object, something one wouldn’t typically consider a necessary accessory for a major league ballplayer to have in his possession as he embarks on camp: A boar’s head.
And no, we are making some veiled reference to Boar’s Head, as in the tasty deli meats of the same name. Nope. Luke Scott trotted into the clubhouse carrying a stuffed wild boar’s head.
Scott had promised to bring in something unique for “show and tell” and made good on his claim:
Rays Report, uh, reports that Scott stated that the boar’s head was a trophy he was quite proud to show off: “My first confirmed kill with a spear,” Scott said before heading out for a workout. Spear hunting boards? That doesn’t sound particularly safe. But given it is Luke Scott we are discussing here, it actually sounds just about right.
