Thunder’s Kevin Durant takes brutal fall, manages to stay in the game (video/GIF)
Early on in Thursday night’s prime-time, nationally televised game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat at Chesapeake Energy Arena, superstar Kevin Durant took a nasty fall while going for a rebound during the first quarter. Durant fell violently to the floor after getting slightly undercut by Heat forward Chris Andersen. Durant appeared to land on his left side, smacking his elbow, shoulder and hip on the hardwood simultaneously. The ugly thud created by his body smacking the floor was audible.
Durant remained on the floor for some time, but ultimately got back up on his feet and amazingly stayed in the game. At the time of the publishing of this post and midway through the second quarter, Durant was 0 for 6 from the field, but had four points, all from the free-throw line. It’s difficult to determine whether or not the nasty spill has anything to do with the struggles Durant is having with his shot, but it wouldn’t be surprising. It’s safe to say that Thunder fans — and NBA fans— simply are relieved that Durant wasn’t injured seriously and managed to remain in the game.
