Serena Wiliams makes a racket smashing her racket in Aussie Open loss (video)
In her first loss since Aug. 17, Serena Williams went down in her quarterfinal match at the Australian Open, losing to 19-year-old American Sloane Stephens, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
And to make matters worse, Williams also reportedly was fined $1,500 by tournament officials for a temper tantrum that occurred during the match. Leading into the first changeover of the first set, Williams paused, then slammed her racket into the court, and with two power thwacks of frustration, destroyed the poor piece of tennis equipment, rendering it broken and useless. Poor racket.
Discussing her loss after the match, Williams spoke little about the the “HULK SMASH RACKET” scene, instead focusing on a succession of injuries she had been dealing with throughout the Aussie Open. But when asked by reporters about the outburst, Serena said, “Did you see it?” slyly adding, “I even had a wry smile on my lips after that. It made me happy, unfortunately.”
But what of the racket, Serena? What about the poor racket?
