Gabby Douglas leads Pledge of Allegiance at Democratic National Convention (video)

Personal politics aside, no need for a PoFloWa here, folks — here’s some interesting news where sports and the presidential election have met and it comes from what happened at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.: Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas led delegates at the DNC in the Pledge of Allegiance on Wednesday afternoon.

Via the Des Moines Register:

Douglas, who won two gold medals in the 2012 London Olympics, wasn’t on the convention schedule because organizers weren’t sure she’d make it here on time, Obama campaign aides said.

She told Politico earlier today that she’s an Obama fan. She was on a panel promoting the Kids’ Health Goes Gold initiative in Charlotte today, Politico reported.

Good for Gabby. A well done recitation, indeed. And it is nice to see that the Fierce Five continues to garner the national spotlight. We’ll have to see how long America’s love affair with the talented gymnasts lasts.

Oh, and by the way: McKayla Maroney thoughts on her teammate’s performance? Yeah, you guessed it: probably not impressed.
