Thief breaks into Safeco Field store, steals 16 discounted Ichiro jerseys (video)
Ichiro Suzuki, perhaps one of the most beloved players ever to don a Mariners jersey, apparently remains a fan favorite in Seattle, even though he was traded to the New York Yankees in late July. At the very least, Ichiro’s jersey remains a hot commodity for one thief in particular, as an unidentified individual broke into a Safeco Field store under the cover of darkness early Wednesday morning and made off with 16 pilfered Ichiro jerseys.
The kicker about the crime is two-fold. For one thing, of a much lesser note, the Ichiro jerseys were heavily discounted and secondly, the Ichiro jerseys were the only items of memorabilia the thief elected to steal.
Via The Seattle Times:
“They were very specific,” said store supervisor Chris French. “We are thinking they had scoped it out before.”
The 16 Ichiro jerseys stolen normally retail for $240 apiece. But French said the price recently was slashed in half.
Police were called to the team store, at 1250 First Ave. S., around 4:15 a.m., said Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt. Officers found jerseys strewed on the sidewalk outside the broken window.
Video of the criminal making a getaway his bountiful booty of Ichiro jerseys follows.
Masterful work. And even though he had strong opinions regarding Ichiro’s future with the Mariners in the past, there is nothing former Mariners great Jay Buhner hates more than a thief that steals team memorabilia. With that in mind, methinks Buhner has previously demonstrated how he would treat this criminal — if given the chance — should he ever be apprehended by the police:
Ha. Never gets old.
