Chinese gymnast named Dong Dong is now my favorite Olympic athlete

The 23-year-old Chinese trampoline gymnast Dong Dong’s bio, via Wikipedia:

Dong Dong (simplified Chinese: 董栋; traditional Chinese: 董棟; pinyin: Dǒng Dòng; born 1989-04-13 in Zhengzhou, Henan) is a male Chinese trampoline gymnast who competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics where he won the Bronze medal.

But most of all, we’ll remember him most for the fact that his name is Dong Dong.

Is chuckling at this young Olympian’s name an exercise is immature, lame-brained, sophomoric stupidity? Oh, without a doubt. And I refuse to apologize for it. Oftentimes, laughing about dong is wrong, but laughing about Dong Dong made perfect sense all along. Have I gone on far too long?

Fine. Fair enough. Now that I got that out of me, allow me to add this: if I were attending the London Olympics and had the chance, I know what I would ask Dong Dong:

Dong, where is my automobile? Because traffic and parking in London is going to be a disaster, and knowing myself as I do, I’d probably forget where I left my car and maybe Dong Dong knows his way around town far better than I do.

Best of luck in the Olympics, Dong Dong. If I know the interwebs as well as I think I do, I’m pretty sure there are lots of people who will be pulling on you come competition time. Pulling for you, I meant pulling for you. Gee whiz.
