Spice Girls will perform at the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics
I guess, after all these years, Spice Girls in fact still do know what I want what I really really want, because according to a Daily Mail report, the sole remaining holdout from the purveyors of Girl Power, one Miss Victoria Beckham, a/k/a Posh Spice, has acquiesced and decided to join the gals for a one-night-only engagement as the group will join Take That, George Michael, The Who, among others who will be performing at the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics.
That’s right: Melanie Chisholm (“Sporty Spice”), Emma Bunton (“Baby Spice”), Melanie Brown (“Scary Spice”), Geri Halliwell (“Ginger Spice”) and Victoria Beckham (“Posh Spice”) will reunite and word on the street is that their trademark hit, “Wannabe,” will be one of the two songs they will perform. The other song? Probably one of the other two hits they had, I reckon.
Beckham fueled the speculation that she would finally agree to performing with the girls during a radio interview on Thursday:
“I’m so respectful of my past and I love the other girls. We have some fantastic fans.
“Who knows, maybe some day we’ll do something else with the Spice Girls. I would love nothing more.
“I don’t know about a comeback tour but I loved being back with the girls. There was a lot of fun, we did so much together and we’ll see. If they’re up for something then I certainly am.
“We are so proud to be English and we are very excited about the Olympics.”
And now it is reportedly a done deal, and you can color me tickled pink about it. I’m sure I’m not the only one to feel this way, but a London Olympics without some Girl Power would have been like, um, like trying to be someone’s lover, without getting with their friends. Or something.
So set your spirit free. It’s the only way to be, you know.
