Dog Day at A’s game: 718 dogs, 1 Giants fan snapped at by a St. Bernard (video)
Thursday was Dog Day at O.co Coliseum as the Athletics took on the Yankees. According to a tweet from AP reporter Janie McCauley, she counted 718 dogs in attendance, a total that will be submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records to determine if that figure amounts to the most canines ever to attend a sporting event.
Other than the unseemly amounts of poop presumably littering the concourses and aisles, by all accounts, the day went off without a hitch, save for one dog in attendance, a St. Bernard who took the “Gotta Support the Team” to another, somewhat ferocious, level.
The video above shows the St. Bernard briefly interacting with a man before taking a few snaps at the guy. And here I thought St. Bernards were a breed of dog devoted to servitude that would come to the aid of folks in dire need by delivering to them barrels of brandy.
But this fella was different. What made this man a prime target for the A’s fan-dog ‘s aggression was the fact he was wearing a San Francisco Giants jacket, something the St. Bernard obviously did not take too kindly to. Talk about a dogged determination to represent and defend the hometown team, am I right? Ain’t no ifs, ands or mutts about it.
