Twins outfielder Ben Revere made another potential ‘Catch of the Year’ grab (video)
Not that the Minnesota Twins needed it on Monday night given the team walloped the Baltimore Orioles, slapping the ball all over Target Field as the team notched 20 hits in a 19-7 victory, but right fielder Ben Revere put on an impressive display of defense in the bottom of the 1st inning when he robbed Adam Jones of an extra-base hit with an astounding diving play that has to be one of the finest catches thus far in the MLB season.
Shading Jones towards right center, Revere had a lot of ground to make up after Jones sliced a line drive down towards the right field line. Showing off his impressive speed, Revere closed on the ball then made a dazzling dive and catching the ball just before it landed for a hit.
Said Revere on his jaw-dropping catch:
“I saw in the scouting report that he likes to go to that right-center gap, so I was there. He went down and got it, so the ball kind of tailed. It kind of got in the sun a little bit, so I squinted my eyes and luckily I saw it. I dove and it landed in my glove.”
This isn’t the first time the Twins young outfielder has dazzled with the glove and made a catch worthy of Catch of the Year consideration. Last season, Revere made an incredible over-the-shoulder catch of a Vladimir Guerrero shot to the warning track as he ran up the wall, a play deemed worthy of winning the GIBBY Award for Play of the Year.
