Giancarlo Stanton almost decapitates cutoff man Logan Morrison (video)
The Florida Marlins were thoroughly whupped by the San Francisco Giants by a score of 14-7 in a scoring-heavy game on Thursday night but things could have been much worse had Logan Morrison not demonstrated his cat-like reflexes during the top of the 7th inning.
With one out and Melky Cabrera on second, Buster Posey had a base hit leak through the right side of the infield. Right fielder Giancarlo Stanton aggressively made a play on the ball, running in to field it. To prevent Cabrera scoring from second — a distinct possibility he would at least attempt to as he took a wide turn around third — Stanton came up firing for home.
The problem was that first baseman Logan Morrison was directly in Stanton’s line of fire and it took some pretty quick instincts by Morrison to get out of the way of Stanton’s rocket before it darn near took his head off. I mean it was a real close call. So much so I imagine Morrison will have something new to discuss during his next meeting with the Marlins’ team therapist. Well, that and the ongoing treatment for the post-traumatic stress disorder Morrison has been afflicted with ever since he was attacked by a praying mantis. Sadly, there are some things that are difficult for anyone to get over, even with the best psychiatric care. Praying mantis attacks might be one of them.
