Alexander Ovechkin nearly scores a goal from his butt (video)
Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals staved off elimination on Wednesday night by beating the New York Rangers by a score of 2-1 in Game 6 of the teams’ Eastern Conference Semifinals series to force a Game 7 on Saturday within the hostile confines of Madison Square Garden.
Ovie came up big in the first period, setting the tone early by scoring a power play goal only 1:28 into the game. But it was his incredible near-miss in the third period that had people buzzing.
Snatching the puck on a Rangers turnover at the blue line, Ovechkin kicked it into high gear and attacked the offensive zone. After getting partially played out of a breakaway as he was somewhat taken down by a Rangers player, Ovie regained control of the puck while spinning on the ice to reorient himself towards the goal and managed to fire off a miraculous shot that was much closer to making it through to the back of the net than it should have, considering Ovechkin was taking the shot from the seat of his pants. The guy’s got mad skills. I’m surprised you didn’t know that.
You know, just thinking here, but reading that headline again, it occurred to me that perhaps it was a bit misleading. The phrasing of the headline almost makes it sound Ovechkin scored a goal by somehow firing the puck out of his butt, which obviously is not the case. That’s totally not even possible, people. And even if it was, I sure as heck wouldn’t want to see it.
