Girl uploads video of herself painfully plowing through a steeplechase barrier
Ouch! When an embarrassing video makes its way to YouTube, it is usually uploaded by an onlooker who was fortunate enough to have a camera trained upon the the person making the humiliating gaffe. But in this instance, that is not the case, as the poor girl who is the subject of the video uploaded it to the interwebs herself, no doubt subjecting herself to mock and ridicule by the internet’s unwashed and prone-to-mocking masses.
The young lady in question is BYU senior Katy Andrews, whose epic biff during last Saturday’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at something called the Robison Invitational looks as painful for her as it is amusing to us.
Her description of the unfortunate occurrence, on YouTube (by way of Deadspin):
Was Justin Bieber playing?
The result you get when a runner attempts diving…
I was seeing stars but ran 2 more laps afterwards.
I smacked my head and my thigh. The head bled; the thigh bruised.
Yeesh, that doesn’t sound like much fun. And just so you know, I’m not some young, punk whippersnapper who is hip to the blasted music the kids are listening to these days, so I am completely lost as to the meaning of the Justin Bieber reference. And do you know what? I’d not have it any other way.
Miss Andrews added the following explanation in the YouTube comments section:
I think I caught the toe of my spike a couple steps before the barrier. I don’t remember smacking the barrier…only being completely submerged in the water haha
I guess the old saying is true: if you can’t laugh at yourself…um, how does that go? Oh yeah, if you can’t laugh at yourself, you probably shouldn’t upload humiliating videos of epic fails committed by yourself to the internet. Well, that might not be the exact quote, but it works in this instance.
Bravo, Miss Katy Andrews, for having a sense of humor and allowing the world to share in your pain. But in a funny way, of course.
