Detroit Pistons giving season ticket holders jackets with microchips in them
Earlier this week, the Detroit Pistons announced news regarding the team’s plans for season ticket sales packages for the 2012-13 season. Among the more benign details related to pricing, etc. was the announcement of this mind-blowing concept: season ticket holders in two newly created membership groups — named “Pistons Black” and “Pistons Red” — will receive a Pistons jacket which has an embedded microchip that will enable these season ticket holders to receive discounts on food, beverages and souvenirs. The future is now.
Via CBS Detroit (by way of Hoop Doctors):
Members at both levels will also receive a one-of-a-kind authentic on-court Pistons team jacket. Using advanced-microchip technology embedded in the sleeve, ticket holders can use the jacket at all games to receive 20% off food and beverage items and 30% off merchandise purchased at The Palace.
Far out. Only one drawback: with the new technology, the Pistons organization we now be aware of the sad truth about the poor souls who engorge themselves on an average of six hot dogs at every game. That’s the kind of stuff most people would prefer not to get out.
