ESPN’s first studio broadcast in 1979 was super groovy (video)

Talk about hopping in the wayback machine. Ray Leonard serves as your guide to what lies “beyond that blue horizon” which of course is “a limitless world of sports.” If he only knew.

And to think, this simple, humble low budget broadcast from Sept. 7, 1979 set in motion the machine that over the following decades evolved into the bloated, all-powerful behemoth that, like it or not, we begrudgingly have no choice but to rely on today, given the dearth of any other viable options for wall-to-wall sports coverage.

And to that, my friends, I say, “Booyah.”
