And to think, this simple, humble low budget broadcast from Sept. 7, 1979 set in motion the machine that over the following decades evolved into the bloated, all-powerful behemoth that, like it or not, we begrudgingly have no choice but to rely on today, given the dearth of any other viable options for wall-to-wall sports coverage.
