T-Wolves players karaoke ‘N Sync’s ‘Tearing Up My Heart’, awkwardness ensues (video)
Hoo boy. Perhaps I should have put it, “T-Wolves players butcher ‘N Sync’s ‘Tearing Up My Heart’, ear bleeding ensues,” but no need to split hairs.
Referred to as “Pack Karaoke,” the video stars Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love, Anthony Tolliver, Wes Johnson, Michael Beasley, Martell Webster and Nikola Pekovic trying their darnedest to reach deep into their memory banks to recall the lyrics to the 1997 hit.
A couple of quick observations:
- Why don’t they show Ricky Rubio giving the karoke jam a try? Even with his limited grasp on the English language, there’s no way he would have fared any worse at trying to sing the lyrics than this teammates did — all he does is say he knows the song
- Kevin Love, while appearing to have the best grasp of the song, sings the worst. And he’s related to members of the Beach Boys, for crying out loud
- Michael Beasley wins the video, especially when he insists he knows the song but it takes him mumbling the words awhile until the chorus starts again and he begins singing clearly — his hand gestures are solid as well
- Nikola Pekovic’s contribution: Do you got some Serbian songs?” Ha
All in all, a solid effort by an up-and-coming NBA squad. If by solid effort I mean, embarrassingly hilarious. Maybe the team would fare better if they opted to karaoke a good song. You know, like “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. Now that is a solid track, kids.
