With one second left, HS team scores on dunk after full-court pass (video)
Another day, another incredibly impressive video of high school sports heroics. But in this case, the result of said play leaves something to be desired.
With one second remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter, the Vinita (Okla.) High boys basketball team found themselves faced with the difficult task of trying to score off an inbounds pass at the other end of the court after its opponent, Locust Grove (Okla.) High, just sank a free throw. This is when the kids from Vinita got awfully creative.
In light of the fact that the clock would not start until a member of the team touched the ball, the player making the inbound play heaved the ball down the court, slightly ahead of a streaking teammate. Since said teammate did not touch the ball until just before he was under the hoop, he had at least a sliver of time to throw it down for a dunk before the buzzer sounded.
So, you might be asking yourself: what is it about the result of the play that leaves something to be desired? Simple. Vinita was leading the game at the time by a score of 52-40, thus making the last-second score completely unnecessary. Instead, it was simply a way of rubbing it in, running up the score and piling it on their already-beaten opponent.
No, that ain’t right, man. Inbound the ball and let the clock run out. Darn showboating kids.
