Here’s An Awkward Photo-Op Featuring Kareem Abdul-Jabbar And Hillary Clinton
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the former NBA great and social activist, was appointed a cultural ambassador by the U.S. State Department on Wednesday “to promote education, understanding and tolerance.”
Said Mr. Abdul-Jabbar regarding the prestigious appointment (via USA Today):
“I’m looking forward to it,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “I think it’s a great opportunity. I remember when I was a kid and Louis Armstrong got to do somewhat the same thing for President Kennedy. It was a big deal then. Following in his footsteps, one of my heroes, really makes me feel good and I hope I can go out there and do a good job.”
Very nice. But what I would like to focus on is the pained expression on Kareem’s face in the above photo, like he’d much rather be doing pretty much anything else other than standing there with Ms. Clinton, up to and including dragging Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.
Yeah, I went with the lazy (and played out) Airplane! reference. Would you have preferred a Bruce Lee joke?
