(Video) Pittsburgh Pirates Turn Triple Play When They Only Needed Two Outs
Only the Pirates!
Here’s how it played out: with one out in the bottom of the 8th inning, Houston Astros infielder Matt Downs hit a grounder to Pirates shortstop Ronny Cedeno. After retiring Downs (two outs), first baseman Garrett Jones threw to second baseman Neil Walker, who tagged out Jose Altuve who was hung out wan deep into No Man’s Land off the bag (three outs). Walker, perhaps not knowing whether or not Altuve was called out, threw home, where Astros center fielder Jordan Schafer was tagged by catcher Ryan Doumit. Get all that?
As a possibility offered up above, in all likelihood, Neil Walker was unaware of the umpire’s call or perhaps was simply reacting to play on the field solely on instinct. You see a guy running home, you throw home. Well, one of those two are probably the reason behind the odd play, or, as also mentioned above, only the Pirates. And yes, the Buccos nevertheless lost 7-4. Yeah.
