Wha? Phillies Nativity Scene Photoshop, ‘Baby Leesus,’ Sells At Auction For $3,500
Holy blasphemy, Batman! And throw a “Jumpin’ Jesus on a pogo stick!” comment in there for good measure. Yep, the above piece is entitled, “Baby Leesus.” You know, like Jesus, but instead of the Messiah being depicted as the baby in the manger, it’s Cliff Lee. Why the hell not, right? And for some ungodly reason, some schmuck ponied up $3,500 last night at the Richie Ashburn/Harry Kalas Foundation Dinner event in Philadelphia. Dan Gross of Philly.com has the heretical details (via Off the Bench):
One amusing live-auction item that fetched $3,500 was a fan-designed photo known as the “Baby Leesus,” a nativity scene featuring Cliff Lee as Baby Jesus surrounded by Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Jr., Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt, each of whom signed the photo.
Well, it was all for a good cause, so I probably shouldn’t quibble over the fact that someone actually paid so much money for it. Nevertheless, let’s say the artist who created this piece had chosen to include Chase Utley, well, I can think of one person who might have paid even more than 3,500 smackeroos for it. But he is a fictional character on a TV show, so there you go.
