Love Letters In The Sand: Sebastian Bach Sings Power Ballad For Oregon Ducks
(raises lit lighter up high, holds it too long, burns fingers)
Some of you young whippersnappers out there might not have the foggiest idea who Sebastian Bach is/was, but let me tell you, if you were looking for high-pitched, hair band vocal histrionics, you looked no further than Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach. “Youth Gone Wild”? Whoa, oh, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, you know it. “Big Guns”? They’re pointed at my heart. Bang! Bang! Shooting like a firing squad.
Well, Mr. Bach made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night to sing a brand new power ballad, an ode hopelessly devoted to the Oregon Ducks, who, unless you have been living under a rock, you know will face the Auburn Tigers in the BCS National Championship Game on January 10th. The song is either called “We Are The Ducks” or “Don’t F**k With The Ducks” or some such nonsense. Maybe it’s just “Oregon Ducks Power Ballad” but that would be mega weaksauce if you ask me.
Anyway, as far as standard ’80s power ballads go, the tune is not too shabby and measures up to some of Bach’s best. Sure, it ain’t even in the same sonic stratosphere of “I Remember You”, but lets be hones, few songs do. And it’s nice to see Sebastian Bach alive, doing well, rocking, and unlike his hair band colleague Bret Michaels, still has a full head of hair, and as far as I can gather, doesn’t have one foot in the grave. That’s nice.
