David Stern: Upcoming NBA Season Could Deliver ‘Greatest Basketball Ever Played’

And to be perfectly frank, I cannot think of one reason why we should not believe him. It’s not like a man as scrupulous as David Joel Stern would ever say anything patently false if he knew it not to be true, right? I guess what I’m getting at is Stern is a straight shooter and a man of integrity, and would never resort to making inaccurate, hyperbolic statements to move product, so to speak.

When asked before the Lakers took on Regal FC Barcelona in an exhibition game whether the Big Three in Miami will be considered bad guys by fans of the league, Stern replied (via Sporting News/AP):

“We’re going to have, really, our most successful season. I don’t think it’s good guys and bad guys. I think you’re going to be getting to see some of the greatest basketball ever played.”

Sorry, with all due respect to Mr. Stern, I just don’t see it that way. There is no doubt that Wade, Bosh and James will be perceived as villains by nearly every person who follows the NBA except for Heat fans. So let’s leave it alone, ’cause we can’t see eye to eye. There ain’t no good guys, there ain’t no bad guys. There’s only you and me and we just disagree. Ooo-ooo-ooohoo, oh-oh-o-whoa.

(Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Dave Mason)
