Up Next For Ron Artest: Boxing, Football, Further Plunges Into Depths Of Craziness
In an interview with Hoops Hype, Ron Artest states very clearly what he would like to be doing after he ends his enigmatic, successful NBA career: boxing and/or football. Maybe both. With Ron-Ron, nothing is ever left off the the table. He’s all in, baby. Or out. Whatever.
Via Sporting News:
“After I’m done with my basketball career, I want to box and I wanna play football – probably tight end position,” Artest said. “I’ve been training for three years for boxing. Probably after this contract, I’ll probably do football first and then boxing.
“I’m definitely serious about those two things I wanna do. I wish I could do it now.”
In case it doesn’t quite come through via his emphatic statements, Artest is definitely serious about football and boxing. Like super cereal. Which leads me to wonder: had Artest simply called it a career after The Malice At The Palace, he would have been only 25-years-old, a bit long in the tooth for the average person to begin a successful boxing career, but given his natural athleticism and bats**t craziness, who knows what the future would have held for Artest.
No, now it’s me who’s being super cereal. You don’t understand. He coulda had class. He coulda been a contender. He coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what he is, let’s face it.
Well, not so much of a bum as he is – well, let’s face facts – a complete and utter goofball, which is why you gotta love the guy. I hope he does pursue a boxing and/or football career after the NBA. To put it plainly, a sports world without Ron Artest is kind of like a post written by yours truly without some hackneyed movie, music or television show reference haphazardly tossed in: it just wouldn’t be the same. But I suppose that’s why the world don’t move to the beat of just one drum.
