Tiger Woods-Rory McIlroy Pissing Match Update: Oh, It’s On, Baby…

'So, I grab her like this and just start pounding...'

Even with the quality of his game at an all-time low, it was very interesting to hear 21-year-old Rory McIlroy repeatedly talk smack about Tiger Woods being named as a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Numerous times throughout Tiger’s career, other players have tried getting in his head in an effort to gain a competitive advantage only to see it backfire miserably. In case you missed the Irish phenom’s comments last month regarding Woods struggling to find his game, here is what McIlroy had to say about the potential of playing against a wounded Tiger (via AFP):

“I would love to face him,” McIlroy said. “Unless his game rapidly improves, I think anybody in the European team would fancy their chances against him.”

McIlroy has predictably, perhaps even wisely, since backtracked from his original statements, saying, “You’ve got to realise, I said those things the week after he had just shot 18 over at Akron, so he wasn’t playing too well at that time.”

Unfortunately for Rory, it might be too late. When asked about McIlroy’s comments, Woods had a terse response regarding McIlroy’s statement that he would like to “take him down” (via The Telegraph):

“Me too.”

The wry smile and glint in his eye that followed said more than any bland crib-sheets could. But when asked if he would like to elaborate, Woods replied: “No.”

Ain’t no party like a Ryder Cup smack talk party because a Ryder Cup smack talk party goes until someone politely says “Quiet please” and holds up a sign indicating people should do the same. Hmm.
