Aw-Shucks: Tim McCarver Won’t Be Tarred And Feathered For Idiotic Comments
Even worse, we won’t even be able to experience the joy of watching the woodhead get savagely beaten for the incredibly moronic and hyperbolic comments he made comparing how he believes the Yankees have treated Joe Torre since his departure to how WWII-era German and Russian generals were airbrushed out of photos after they were executed.
I know, it’s shocking, isn’t it? Who woulda thunk somebody with the savvy, wit and intelligence of one James Timothy McCarver would go ahead and try to pass off a comment like that? On an MLB on FOX broadcast being watched by hundreds, maybe thousands, of people? Okay, hundreds.
For those catching up with this story, here’s the latest edition of “Deep Thoughts with Tim McCarver”:
Via The Fabulous Forum:
“You remember some of those despotic leaders in World War II, primarily in Russia and Germany, where they used to take those pictures that they had taken of former generals who were no longer alive, they had shot them.” McCarver said during the broadcast. “They would airbrush the generals out of the pictures; in a sense that’s what the Yankees have done with Joe Torre.
“They have airbrushed his legacy. I mean, there’s no sign of Joe Torre at the stadium. And that’s ridiculous. I don’t understand it.”
Of course he doesn’t understand it. I doubt Tim McCarver even has a decent handle on the basic concepts of gravity. You see, McCarver is what we call in the blogging business as a “ham-fisted mouth-breather.” It’s not a technical term, but it sure is illustrative. If you require further evidence of the Tim McCarvertardery Phenomenon, please refer to ShutUpTimMcCarver.com (side note: why haven’t the proprietors of that site kept it updated? It’s not like McCarver hasn’t said anything stupid over the past four years).
Moving on, after the Anti-Defamation League caught wind of the FOX broadcaster’s ill conceived comparison and called him on it, McCarver had little choice but to apologize (via the New York Daily News):
“Although my analogy was inappropriate, in my opinion the underlying point remains true. That Yankee management — not the players, they have embraced Joe Torre and always will — has erased Joe Torre from their history, for the most part. The way the Yankees treated Joe was not in response to the book he wrote [“The Yankee Years”]. The book came out well after the old stadium closed. But I admit my analogy was over the top.”
Yeah, McCarver’s comments couldn’t be any more “over the top” if they had been taken from a movie about the underground arm wrestling circuit.
What? No drum roll? Lame. Do you want to know what else is lame? Of course you do – who doesn’t like reading about lame stuff? You are reading this blog after all, so you clearly have an affinity for idiocy. Get this: McCarver isn’t even going to be disciplined for his illustrative display of Foot-in-Mouth Disease. A statement from FOX spokesman Dan Bell (via Fanhouse):
“We’ve discussed the situation with Tim, and relayed in no uncertain terms that his choice of analogies was inappropriate, which he completely agrees with and regrets using,” Bell said. “Given his contrition and flawless 25-year track record, we’re comfortable no further action is necessary.”
“Contrition and flawless 25-year track record”? What the fungus?
I guess since we aren’t bigwigs at FOX, we’ll just have to accept McCarver will worm his way out of the mess he made with minimal consequences, although he will be forced to continue broadcasting games with the incredibly droll Joe Buck, which is punishment in of itself. Being forced to take in a baseball game with those two morons broadcasting it is like listening to stupid in stereo.
