This Just In: Tony LaRussa Hates Mexicans, Still Loves Puppies
Alright, alright. Was the above headline over-sensationalizing the real story a bit? Maybe. Was it also an effective way to drum up interest in the story and get you to click through to the post? Abso-friggin’-lutely. The only way I could have made the headline more provocative is if instead of it inaccurately claiming that LaRussa hates Mexicans, I could have plugged LeBron James’ name in there.
But seriously, folks (adjusts tie) – here’s the scoop: St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa, while speaking to reporters before the team’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, mentioned that he fully supports Arizona’s controversial new immigration law, an opinion which is sure to cause a bit of consternation among St. Louis’ passionate baseball fans, no matter their political leanings. Via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
“I’m actually a supporter of what Arizona is doing,” La Russa said. “If the national government doesn’t fix your problem, you’ve got a problem. You’ve got to fix it yourself. That’s just part of the American way.”
Hey, LaRussa: git yer durn politics out of my baseball! I don’t care if dey tuk er jerbs or not!
Nah, just kidding. Mr. LaRussa has every right to air his opinions – I’m pretty sure this is still a free country. On the other hand, LaRussa shouldn’t be surprised nor should he be unprepared when some semblance of a backlash occurs. All I know is he better remind his intimidating security detail (pictured above) on red alert. Seriously, check out those two geeky dweebs. They make even me look cool and right now I’m wearing penny loafers and rocking some bitchin’ parachute pants. Hey, reestablished trends have to begin somewhere by someone, right?
