Add Disco Music To The List Of Things Colin Montgomerie Hates
That’s right, disco music now joins perennially coming up short at the British Open, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and the Masters, foods without trans fats and dirty immigrants (okay, that last one is just a guess) on the things that Colin Mongtomerie hates with every portly fiber of his being. Last weekend at the Spanish Open, disco music blaring from a nearby hospitality tent rattled Montgomerie to such an extent that he ended up three-putting on the 18th hole, resulting in a bogey. This affront set off an expletive-peppered tirade by the Scottish golfer.
“Is this a ****ing party or a golf tournament?,” the 46-year-old Briton fumed after signing for a one-under-par 71 which left him six strokes behind early leader Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina.
Yes, it is always good to have a scapegoat in hand to draw attention away from his penchant for choking, even in the first rounds of minor golf tournaments. God forbid something disrupts the peaceful tranquility conducive to the intense concentration necessary to putt a friggin’ golf ball.
I can only imagine what kind of reaction Steve Williams would have had if this kind of egregious distraction occurred during a tournament Tiger was competing in – he likely would have done “The Hustle” all about the face and torso of the person responsible. You know, because that’s the way (uh-huh, uh-huh) he likes it.
