Gus Johnson Keeps It Real By Referencing Slogan For King Cobra Malt Liquor
As is the case every year, one of the many highlights from the NCAA tournament is a steady dose of Gus Johnson-ness. The guy is easily one of the most passionate and entertainingly charismatic announcers in the game today.
According to a tweet from Sports Illustrated’s Seth Davis Saturday during the Butler-Kansas State matchup, Johnson, when reacting to Butler’s Gordon Hayward drawing a foul while scoring on a nifty little layup, Gus proclaimed, “Don’t let the smooth taste fool ya!” which was (or is?) the slogan for King Cobra Malt Liquor.
So there you have it. As not much of a malt liquor aficionado, other than the occasional two or ten Mickey’s wide mouths during my youth, I cannot speculate as to the smooth, charcoal-aged quality of King Cobra as compared to other malt liquors.
But I will tell you this: if I don’t see “Don’t let the smooth taste fool ya!” added to the Gus Johnson Soundboard by week’s end, I’m going to be pissed.
