Sweet Merciful Crap, What In The Hell Is This?
I can tell you what it is, but I cannot say with any certainty why anyone thought this would be a good idea.
The travesty in video located above is a bunch “[n]otable North Texas athletes, mayors, and personalities” doing their part for the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee to scare the living shit out of anybody who views this…thing. This is like that videotape in The Ring, only instead of dying after viewing it, you want to kill yourself. Or at least gouge out your eyeballs and stick letter openers into your ears. All I know is after watching that trainwreck there is no way I can go out in public looking like this.
The video premiered before a Faith Hill concert last Saturday, the first of three events kicking off the celebration due to the impending arrival of Super Bowl SLV to Texas next February.
Super Bowl XLV’s game day announcers, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, are emceeing all three affairs. They formed a surprisingly funny comedy duo onstage before Faith Hill and her band popped and rocked and countrified Bass Hall.
Aikman, bearer of three Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl rings, and his FOX Sports sidekick Buck were first on stage and instilled a light air to the night’s events by poking fun at Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach, themselves and others.
The comedic stylings of Troy Aikman AND Joe Buck? I wonder if Buck busted out any “Take my wife, please!” one-liners.
But the video, oh, the video is just god-awful. It’s actually embarrassing to watch.
The duo also introduced a very funny video, produced by the Host Committee, that had a number of well-known North Texans singing lines from Faith Hill’s hit song This Kiss. Those so-called singers, many only slightly off-key and others entirely so, included Jones, Staubach, current and former Cowboys Tony Romo, Russell Maryland, Emmitt Smith and more; track star Michael Johnson, Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki, and a host of others.
Hoo boy. I can see this sort of crap coming from Tony Romo and Emmitt Smith, but Nolan Ryan and Roger Staubach? You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.
