New York Post Columnist Takes Offense To Star Spangled Non-Event
Larry Brooks of The New York Post is sick and tired of how the United States never gets any respect. In his provocatively-entitled column, “A Star Spangled Insult,” Brooks halfheartedly takes offense to the fact that before the puck was dropped in the game between the Senators and the Rangers, the individuals running the video screen on the scoreboard at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa thought it would be funny to show photos of every Canadian gold medal winner as well as video of Sidney Crosby’s game-winning goal – WHILE THE U.S. NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS PLAYING!
Utterly disgraceful. This act of unchecked aggression against our country cannot stand, man. What happened to you, Canada? Do you not realize that individual acts by a couple of people who happen to be employed at a hockey arena in your country reflect poorly on your nation as a whole? Shame on you for allowing this to happen!
The Canadians closed ranks around the perpetrators of this travesty and blamed what occurred on a technical error. Well, isn’t that convenient, you lily-livered bastards? The only error you Canuckistanis made is not realizing quickly enough a little fact about the red, white and blue: THESE COLORS DON’T RUN!
Even if some yahoo working at the New York Post happened to find the act insulting enough to write about, Americans who actually played in the game, when asked about this supposed egregious affront to our national anthem, appeared unfazed by the whole “controversy”:
“The scoreboard?” Drury asked rhetorically. “I’m not too worried about that.”
Ryan Callahan concurred.
“I didn’t have any idea,” said Callahan, who scored twice in the Blueshirts’ 4-1 victory over the Senators, including one off a brilliant dash down the left side at 0:22 of the second . “I don’t look at the scoreboard during the anthem. I look at the flag.”
God damn right, Ryan Callahan. You are a true patriot. Lee Greenwood himself would probably consider it an honor to call you a friend.
Thankfully, in the end, cooler heads prevailed and this is unlikely to develop into some kind of international incident, probably much to the chagrin of some of the mouth-breathers who left comments on Brooks’ column:

that’s because Canada is an entire country full of white trash pieces of garbage

How much more bush league can you get? “True north strong and free”? Only because we’re your next door neighbor. You’d all be speaking Russian if it weren’t for the USA.
Well put, fellas. Now that’s the kind of pro-America, anti-everybody else xenophobic attitude that makes our country great. God bless you two commenting half-wits, and God Bless America.
