Vince Young Enjoys The Ecstasy Of Victory

A safe statement to be sure, but it must feel pretty good to be Vince Young right about now. Cast off and left your dead last season as he watched Kerry Collins lead the Titans to a 13-3 record, Young is now 5-0 since replacing the struggling Collins after a thrilling 20-17 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Young threw for a career-high 387 yards and with the Titans trailing with 2 minutes, 37 seconds remaining, led the Titans on a 18-play, 99-yard drive that culminated with a touchdown pass to Kenny Britt with no time remaining on the clock. Young converted three fourth downs on the final drive and is now 23-11 as a starting quarterback.

Young must feel worlds away from where he found himself last season, when in September, the Titans requested that police be on the lookout for his SUV which ultimately led to Young having a late night meeting with head coach Jeff Fisher at the Titans headquarters; not to mention when in May of 2008, photos of him surfaced shirtless and swilling booze at some ill-conceived sausage party.

I don’t care how many times you see those photos – they will never get old. But ultimately, you could say that Vince Young has come a long way, baby. The same can’t be said for his opposing quarterback in yesterday’s game, Matt Leinart, who made his first start for Arizona since October 7, 2007? Well, Matty had to suffer the indignity of losing to Vince Young again, just like he did in the 2006 Rose Bowl, when Young’s Longhorns defeated Leinart’s Trojans in the National Championship Game.

“And he did that to myself in the national title game,” Leinart said. “I thought Vince played great. He made plays in that last series, so hat’s off to him. I thought our defense played phenomenally. He just made some plays.”

At least Leinart looked somewhat focused during pregame warmups.

Too bad that doesn’t always translate to the football field during live, game action. Leinart went 21-31 for 220 with no touchdowns in the loss.

I wonder if, while taking that practice snap, instead of focusing on the task at hand, Leinart was thinking about how good a beer bong would taste.

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. When you have an opportunity to incorporate some of the best photos of NFL players in the history of the internets, you take it.
