Roberto Luongo And The Mystery Of The TSN Poll Curse
We’ve all heard about the Sports Illustrated cover jinx (hey, if it has its own page on Wikipedia, it’s good enough for me). The Madden Curse (snopes? Even better!)? Check. But rarely has a jinx struck so quickly, have been so heinous, so…Canadian. Ladies and gentlemen: the TSN Poll Curse.
For your consideration, picture this: a man, playing goalie for a NHL team at the top of his game, who just signed a hefty 12-year, $64 million contract extension in the offseason with the Vancouver Canucks, coming down with a mysterious injury during a game last Saturday – a cracked rib which will cause Luongo to miss a week or so.
Coincidence? I think not, dear readers. There are no coincidences in this crazy world. But the eeriest part? Luongo was injured days before he was voted as the goalie with the best mask in the NHL by a TSN poll. The Curse is alive, and it has claimed its first victim.
Did you hear that? The Curse claimed its victim BEFORE his helmet even was selected as the best in the NHL according to some meaningless poll!
That’s some creepy shit right there, kids.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a tin foil hat to construct. The TRUTH is out there.
