David Feherty Is Your Next Hottie Sideline Reporter In College Football

I’m a big fan of CBS golf analyst David Feherty. I also enjoy watching golf, so that should tell you something right there – I’m not sure what, but something.

Feherty adds a unique mix of wit, self-deprecating humor and knowledge to CBS golf broadcasts, which counterbalances Jim Nantz and his insistence on over-romanticizing the game. I would dare say that Feherty has a certain je ne sais quoi about him, if only I knew what that phrase meant. It sounded good, so I went with it.

That’s why I was a bit suprised to learn that Feherty will be roaming the sidelines during the Navy-Rice football game this Saturday for CBS. It certainly seems to be a move that will take him out of his element.

Feherty was interviewed by Camille Powell from The Washington Post and if you were concerned that Feherty might take this new assignment a bit too seriously, the below response should put any fears to rest (via Waggle Room):

How does an Irish golf analyst end up doing sideline reporting at a college football game?

I’m going to be honest, I’m wondering the same thing. I’m by no means an American football expert. So I’m hoping they’re not looking for cutting-edge commentary from the sidelines. Because I watch Phil Simms and Jim Nantz and Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson, and I hear that the quarterback has fumbled in the pocket — I’m looking at his uniform and thinking those are tight pants, where the hell is the pocket? And what’s he fumbling for? His car keys?

Oh dear. This might not end well. Although if you read the entire interview, you will see that Feherty’s primary responsibility will be interviewing a higher-up from the Navy, which fits in well with his passion for charitable work involving the United States military, specifically his Troops First Foundation, a top-notch organization that “gives America’s injured vets a chance to reclaim their dignity.”

And who knows? Maybe he’ll do well in this endeavor as well. Any guy that can get Tiger Woods to compete in a farting competition can probably handle a little sideline reporting. If Holly Rowe can do it, why can’t David Feherty?
