Now Where Am I Going To Learn About How To Deal With Crohn’s Disease?
What a nice little operation they are running down in Jacksonville.
Quarterback David Garrard thought it would be a great idea to host a weekly radio program every Friday. In fact, he has been doing one for the past three weeks. The only problem with it is Garrard neglected to tell head coach Jack Del Rio, who found out about the show by coming across it while listening to the radio.
Yeah, Coach Del Rio put the kibosh on Garrard’s little radio show.
Del Rio was less than impressed, mostly because Garrard was talking about things unrelated to the next opponent two days before the game. So the coach went directly to Garrard and squashed the weekly segment.
“Less than 48 hours away from the game, it’s not even a question,” Del Rio said. “I don’t even understand how anybody could ever advise somebody to think about doing something like that. It makes no sense.”
Not many things make sense in this crazy business they call the National Football League, Mr. Del Rio. For instance, how a ooach can lead a team to an 11-5 record in 2007 (including a playoff victory) to 5-11 in 2008 and still have a job. It makes no sense.
Garrard says he understands Del Rio’s decision, but felt like it didn’t interfere with his work as a quarterback for a crappy team that no one in Jacksonville cares about anyway.
“He said, ‘As a father figure, I’m just trying to tell you this isn’t good late in the week like this,”‘ Garrard said. “‘You can field things early in the week and … rehash the past game. But late in the week, you want to be studying your film, you want to be with your family and you want to be off your feet, relaxing.’ I totally understand where he’s coming from.”
Sorry, David Garrard, but that’s pretty crappy. Ooh, maybe that’s not the right way of phrasing that. For those of you who do not know, Garrard suffers from Crohn’s disease, and has spoken out on the topic.
For those of you who don’t know what Crohn’s disease is, here’s a primer:
Crohn’s disease (also known as granulomatous colitis and regional enteritis) is an inflammatory disease of the intestines that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from anus to mouth, causing a wide variety of symptoms. It primarily causes abdominal pain, diarrhea (which may be bloody), vomiting, or weight loss, but may also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract such as skin rashes, arthritis and inflammation of the eye.
Ouch. That doesn’t sound pleasant. But neither does playing quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, so I feel extra bad for David Garrard. And now he doesn’t even have a weekly radio program to take his mind off the times he shits the bed.
I meant on the field. When he shits the bed on the field. Did you think I would make fun of his Crohn’s disease? What kind of person do you think I am? Oh, that kind of person? I see.
