Titans Will Wear Decals On Helmets This Season To Honor Steve McNair
In a classy move, beginning Sunday in their preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills in the Hall of Fame game in Canton and continuing throughout the entire 2009 season, the Tennessee Titans will honor the memory and pay tribute to one of the all-time greats in their franchise’s history, Steve McNair, by wearing No. 9 decals on their helmets.
The No.9 decal will be affixed to the throwback helmets of the 1960 Houston Oilers, with an oil derrick on each side, in Sunday’s nationally televised contest. The decal will also be worn on the team’s helmets featuring the Titans logo.
McNair, killed July 4th, threw for 27,141 yards, rushed for 3,439 and threw 156 touchdown passes during his 11 seasons with the Titans/Houston Oilers.
Additionally, current Tennessee Titans backup QB Vince Young intends to honor the late McNair by becoming the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. Oh, and he’s going to be in the Hall of Fame one day too, also to pay homage to McNair.
Okay, Young didn’t really provide that as a reason why he will never accomplish those goals, but since there was no way in hell Young was going to achieve them anyway, what’s the difference?
