ECHL’s Everblades aim to convince Jaromir Jagr to sign with team

The ageless Jaromir Jagr, 45, hasn’t yet received an offer from an NHL team this offseason, despite a desire to continue his professional hockey career at the highest level.

The Florida Panthers have opted not to bring back Jagr, despite the fact he remained a contributor, notching 46 points while playing in all 82 games. Jagr, who has expressed hope of playing until he’s 50, even took to Twitter to joke about his current unemployed status.

Despite the lack of interest from NHL GMs, a new offer has surfaced for Jagr. The ECHL’s Florida Everblades have surfaced as a potential suitor for Jagr’s services, and the team is going all out to lure the iconic player into the fold.

The Everblades have embarked upon a noble crusade to convince Jagr to join the team — should he fail to land an NHL job — one that includes the team amusingly spelling out 16 fantastic reasons why Jagr should do so.

“We believe this deal makes sense for both sides,” said Everblades Public Relations Manager & Broadcaster Alex Reed, via a team press release. “Jaromir will have the opportunity to continue to play the game that he loves, while remaining in the tropical paradise of South Florida. From the team side, well that’s obvious. Just imagine watching number 68 skate on Germain Arena ice, with his long hair flowing behind him. The whole thing just gives us chills.”

What follows are the 16 “top reasons” listed by the team as to why Jagr should join the club, including the option to rest during weekday games.

  • Opportunity to play against former NHL standout Trevor Gillies.
  • #68 jersey is available and has yet to be retired.
  • Opportunity to dethrone Allen’s Chad Costello from winning league scoring title…again.
  • $2 Wednesday’s!  ($2 hot dogs, beer & wine)
  • Best fans in hockey!
  • ‘Weekend Warrior” playing option.
  • Many NHL Players train here in Estero, Florida each year.
  • Defending South Division Champs.
  • Team has made playoffs in 18 of its 19 seasons.
  • “We Got Wings Baby!”
  • Sleeper bus for road travel stocked with Diet Coke and muffins.
  • Brawling with Orlando option.
  • Even our goalies score goals here.
  • Might see an alligator in the pond next to the arena.
  • 20th Anniversary Season of Everblades Hockey.
  • 30th Anniversary Season for the ECHL

Fantastic. Well, at the very least, it’s a nice fallback option for Jagr, to be sure.
