Jayhawks basketball players show off new $12 million dorm (vid)
It’s always been a pretty good gig to end up playing college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks. But thanks to a new $12 million dorm opened last year, Jayhawks players can now enjoy their college experience living in the lap of luxury.
Devonte’ Graham and Landen Lucas recently led a tour of McCarthy Hall and given the glorified dorm boasts an outdoor lounge, media center, basketball court and even a barbershop, it appears it was $12 million well spent.

Graham explains that the half-court practice gym — which is above and beyond Allen Fieldhouse and other facilities — allows players to work on their game whenever they want.
“This is the gym,” he said. “Uh, we get to come down here, late nights, whenever we want to. Just come down and put some shots up.”
Above and beyond the already-mentioned amenities, the hall also boasts a multipurpose kitchen, a stunning media center and a game room with ping pong tables, a pool table, TVs and the like.
But what about the barbershop?
“Before games and stuff, we’ll have some barbers come in here,” Lucas reveals.
It warrants mentioning, though, that only 16 of the 33 dorm rooms house Jayhawks basketball players. The remaining rooms house students other than basketball players.
But it goes without saying without the players and the Jayhawks program, McCarthy Hall never would have been built.
