Bears’ most productive player could miss Week 4: Punter Pat O’Donnell
The Chicago Bears are 0-3 and an unmitigated disaster not even one-quarter the way through the NFL season, something that can be easily explained given that the team’s punter, Pat O’Donnell, arguably has been their most productive player. And the news that he might sit out of the Bears’ Week 4 match-up with the 2-1 Oakland Raiders could be deemed comically devastating.
After all, O’Donnell punted to end each and every Bears offensive possession in last week’s 26-0 throttling at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks. So the news that O’Donnell missed Wednesday’s practice with a right knee injury is bad news for a team that desperately needs — and grossly over-utilizing — the services of that particular special teams position.
In the interim, the Bears reportedly will work out two punters in case O’Donnell can’t go Sunday, and the one who wins the job presumably will blow out his leg like the punter he may be temporarily replacing.
